Bharat Future City

Bharat Future City

Bharat Future City by Revanth Reddy’s plan around the Musi River and Bharat Future City aims to turn Hyderabad into a “global city” by 2034, combining riverfront renewal with a massive new net‑zero urban hub in South Hyderabad.

Musi River Rejuvenation

  • The government plans to clean and desilt a 55 km stretch of the Musi, initially focusing on about 20.5 km between Osmansagar, Himayatsagar and Bapu Ghat with a budget of roughly ₹5,600 crore.

  • Plans include bringing Godavari water to ensure year‑round flow, building embankments and flood‑control systems, and creating green promenades, cycling tracks, and tourism zones along a 50 m buffer on both banks.

  • The project aims to control floods, improve ecology, remove encroachments, and unlock riverfront real estate and heritage tourism in the Old City.

Bharat Future City Vision

  • Bharat Future City (also called Future City Hyderabad/Fourth City) is planned as India’s first large‑scale net‑zero smart city, spread over about 30,000 acres in its first phase in South Hyderabad between the Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar highways, within a broader 765 sq km vision area.

  • The city will have nine specialised zones, including an AI and electronics “tech city,” life‑sciences and health hub, education and research cluster, EV and clean‑energy zone, and entertainment/tourism districts.

  • Designed as a core engine of a targeted $3 trillion Telangana economy by 2047, it is pitched as a global investment magnet for MNCs, startups, and world‑class universities, while using renewable energy, water recycling, green belts, and climate‑resilient planning.

Impact on Hyderabad’s Growth

  • Together, the Musi project and Bharat Future City are positioned as twin pillars of “Telangana Rising 2047,” meant to decongest the current core city, create lakhs of new jobs, and push balanced growth across the metro.

  • Riverfront renewal is expected to revive the Old City’s heritage economy, while the new greenfield city near Shamshabad–Thukkuguda should drive major real estate, industrial, and infrastructure expansion in Hyderabad’s southern growth corridor.

Riverfront Development: Public Spaces, Tourism and Flood Safety

Revanth Reddy’s vision goes beyond cleaning the river; it reimagines Musi as a continuous public space with promenades, cycling tracks and ecological buffers. Plans include:

  • 50‑metre green buffer on both banks with parks, urban forests and walkways.

  • Road corridors and bridges designed to improve east–west traffic while protecting floodplains.

  • Controlled release of Godavari water to maintain base flow and support recreation throughout the year.

The government has initiated the resumption of around 734 acres of government land along the riverfront to remove encroachments and enable integrated planning of parks, transit hubs and commercial nodes. These interventions aim to cut flood risk, raise environmental quality and unlock heritage‑based tourism in the Old City, where restored ghats, markets and monuments could attract visitors and new businesses.

Bharat Future City: India’s Largest Net‑Zero Smart City

While Musi reshapes the inner city, Bharat Future City is planned as a greenfield “fourth city” that will expand Hyderabad’s urban footprint to the south. The core vision area spans around 765 sq km, with an initial development footprint of about 30,000 acres between the Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar highways, close to the Shamshabad–Thukkuguda growth corridor and Hyderabad airport.

Bharat Future City is pitched as India’s first large‑scale net‑zero city, relying on renewable energy, advanced water‑recycling systems, green mobility and climate‑resilient master planning. The government has identified nine specialised zones, including:

  • Tech City for AI, semiconductors, electronics and digital services.

  • Life‑Sciences and Health District for pharma, med‑tech and biotech R&D.

  • An Education & Research Hub that invites global universities and think‑tanks.

  • An EV, Clean‑Energy and Manufacturing Cluster to drive green industry.

  • Entertainment, sports and tourism districts to attract domestic and international visitors.

Revanth Reddy has presented this vision at national and global investor forums, inviting multinational companies and sovereign funds to co‑develop the city as a flagship for India’s urban future. The project is framed as a major engine for Telangana’s target of a $3 trillion economy by 2047, expected to create lakhs of direct and indirect jobs over the next two decades
